One of the key benchmarks in WSU’s quest to become an AAU-like institution is enhancing the quality and enrollment of our graduate programs. In comparing WSU’s profile to those of AAU institutions, this is an area where we fall significantly short. Therefore, the WSU Strategic Plan includes aggressive goals concerning advancement of graduate education over […]
At a time when the state most needs to support its primary and reliable economic engines, a movement is afoot in Olympia which would cripple one of the state’s most economically important industries — agriculture.
Today, budget decisions are being made at all levels of government — federal, state and local – that will have lasting impact on our future success in CAHNRS and WSU Extension. These decisions are being made in an environment that reflects a new political reality for higher education, in general, and for CAHNRS and WSU […]
I have long been impressed with Washington’s agricultural community and with Washington State University, but sometimes, the quality of both exceeds even my expectations. Yesterday’s “Feeding the World” panel discussion held in Ensminger Pavilion as a complement to the Michael Pollan lecture was one such occasion. You see, at the University […]
We recently lost one of the world’s great heroes. Plant scientist and green revolutionary Norman Borlaug died last week at the age of 95. Borlaug, a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1970, worked tirelessly to help ensure that people the world over have enough to eat.
Growing the next generation of agricultural producers and professionals is a primary mission of our college. Doing that well means anticipating, understanding and adjusting to meet the emerging needs of the ag industry in Washington and beyond.
Greetings and welcome to fall semester 2009! It must be time for classes to begin – the marching band is practicing on the field behind Ensminger, more than 100 of us gathered for the college potluck, and the parking spaces on campus are filling up earlier every morning. It is good to see faculty, staff […]
