Are you thinking about joining a local CSA? Community Supported Agriculture is a great way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer. A farmer offers “shares” to consumers. Consumers receive a box of vegetables or other farm products, even flowers during the growing season. Check out the Eat Local First website to learn more about CSAs in Washington State.
Farms involved in Community Supported Agriculture have a commitment to food safety. They develop, implement, and assess a comprehensive food safety plan to mitigate risks to consumers. They follow Good Agricultural Practices from planting to harvest and delivery. They look closely at potential soil and water contamination, pests, and animal intrusion, and worker health and hygiene.
