From Washington State University Extension, I’m Susie Craig.

Do you open the refrigerator door wondering if what you see is safe to eat? This week, add the FoodKeeperApp to your phone or tablet. Developed by the USDA, Cornell University, and the Food Marketing Institute, it provides research-based information on storing foods and beverages to maximize quality, food safety, and reduce food waste.

If you’re saying oh, no, it’s one more app, using this one can save $1,800 on annual food costs. Download the FoodKeeper, then label, organize, and use refrigerated foods according to recommended storage times, saving money and reducing food waste. It might feel time consuming at first. However, most families eat the same foods over time because of preferences, socioeconomic factors, nutrition concerns, and convenience.

This is Food Safety in a Minute.
