From Washington State University Extension, this is Food Safety in a Minute.

Summer entertaining with family and friends is just around the corner. An oftenoverlooked aspect of entertaining guests is asking about food allergies. Food allergies can trigger reactions ranging from being uncomfortable to life-threatening emergencies. Checking with guests beforehand, you can tailor menus to accommodate dietary
restrictions, preventing allergic reactions.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 6% of adults and 8% of children have food allergies. Eight (8) foods account for over 90% of allergic reactions: Milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, soy, and wheat. The CDC also reports 40% of children with food allergies have been treated in an emergency room. Be kind, be safe as you prepare menus, ask about food allergies.

Thanks for listening, I’m Susie Craig.
