From Washington State University Extension, this is Food Safety in a Minute.

Did you know it’s Food Waste Prevention Week. Families throw away 25% of the food they buy. $2,000 a year according to the National Resources Defense Council. Decreasing the amount of food you waste at home saves money, addresses food insecurity, and supports our environment.

Search for Food Waste Prevention week online for interesting webinars. Learn about food waste reduction, find resources, and personal opportunities to be involved at home and in your community. In Washington State, visit The Use Food Well Washington Plan. From shopping more carefully, using leftovers, preserving food, gleaning, and donating food, remember to keep food safety in mind as you reduce food waste in your home.
