From Washington State University Extension, this is Food Safety in a Minute.

Did you grow up eating raw cookie dough? Turns out eating raw cookie dough may make you sick. After a five-month investigation, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported a six-state outbreak of Salmonella linked to raw cookie dough was over. This outbreak included Washington State.

Most cookie recipes include raw eggs and raw flour, ingredients necessary for their structure and flavor. Both ingredients may harbor harmful, pathogenic bacteria. In addition to Salmonella, sometimes found in raw eggs, raw flour may also contain pathogenic E. coli which can cause serious illness.

If enjoy eating cookie dough, find recipes without raw egg, and use heat treated flour. Note: baking temperatures destroy disease-causing bacteria.
