This is Food Safety in a Minute from Washington State University Extension.

Cosmic Crisp® apples developed by Washington State University, have once again claimed the top spot in the Best Apples category of the Good Housekeeping Best Snack Awards. Good Housekeeping evaluated 100 snacks for flavor, nutrition, and usability.

Follow these four steps at home for food safety:

  1. Bag apples separately from raw meat, poultry, and seafood when bringing them
    home.
  2. In the refrigerator, store them separately from raw meat, poultry, and seafood.
  3. Thoroughly wash apples under running water, before trimming damaged areas or
    preparing them for your family.
  4. After cutting apples, refrigerate at 40 degrees F or below as they become
    perishable.
No matter the variety of apples you enjoy this fall, keep food safety in mind.
