September is National Food Safety Month. Here are five safe food handling tips that reduce the risk of foodborne illness, enjoying meals without compromising the health of family and friends.

  • Handwashing: With soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • Storage of perishable food in the refrigerator or freezer, maintaining 40 degrees F
or lower in refrigerator and 0 degrees F or lower in the freezer.
  • Cooking food to appropriate end-point temperatures. Using a thermometer to test
    doneness.
  • Safe produce handling. Washing fruits and vegetables thoroughly under cool
