From Washington State University Extension, this is Food Safety in a Minute.

Did you know the USDA is responsible for investigating problems with meat, poultry, and eggs? If you spot a problem, call the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-674-6854 Monday through Friday between 10A and 6P Eastern Standard Time. Or report the problem online.

To help them, help you and help us, you’ll need the following:

  • Original container or packaging.
  • Foreign objects found.
  • Frozen or refrigerated portions of uneaten food.
  • Brand and product name, manufacturer, and can/package code.
  • Also include store name, location, and purchase date.
  • After medical attention, share information with the Meat and Poultry Hotline
    employees.
