Happy Holidays from Food Safety in a Minute.

December has lots of holidays and observances including National Cookie Day. Our episodes this month focus on special observances, food safety, and reducing food waste. Waste not, want not is our motto. “If you never waste anything, you will have it when you need it.”

National Cookie Day began in the 1980’s with Sesame Street. Yes, the Cookie Monster. Baked, they’re great to eat, but stay away from tasting uncooked cookie dough. Raw eggs may carry Salmonella and flour, pathogenic E. coli. In 2021, there were flour recalls due to E. coli. Both bacteria may cause serious illness.

If you make lots of cookies or receive them as gifts, most freeze successfully. Place them in freezer bags or an airtight container and label. Enjoy them in 2023.

From Washington State University Extension, this is Susie Craig from Food Safety in a Minute.
