Are you confused by organic food labels? If you purchase organic foods, it’s helpful to understand their labels. The United States Department of Agriculture has four labeling categories for organic products.

  • Food labeled 100% Organic must use only ingredients certified organic.
  • Food labeled Organic consist of 95% or more ingredients certified organic. The other 5% are organically produced unless unavailable or on an approved list of substances.
  • Made with Organic food products use at least 70% certified organic ingredients and exclude genetically engineered ingredients.
  • Some products may also include Organic Ingredients listed on the label. For instance, organic apples.

Visit the United States Department of Agriculture to learn more about organic farming, grower certification, and food labels.
