From Washington State University Extension, this is Food Safety in a Minute.

Have you wondered if hand washing prevents COVID-19 as well as its’ new variants? For personal protection, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continue recommending washing with soap and water, scrubbing for 20 seconds, rinsing under running water, and drying for another 20 to 30 seconds with a paper towel. Some transmission of COVID-19, no matter the variant may occur as infected patients cough and sneeze into their hands, spreading the virus to surfaces other people touch.

Influenza, norovirus infections, and upper respiratory infections are also spread from contaminated hands. Wash your hands often and practice keeping your hands out of the T-Zone. That is, always avoid touching your eyes and nose with your hands.

Thanks for listening to Food Safety in a Minute from Washington State University Extension, I’m Susie Craig.
