What is “clean eating”? Introduced by a Canadian fitness coach in 2007, it’s a term often used in social media and publications. However, there is NO clear or governmental definition of “clean eating”. A consumer survey by the International Food Information Council in 2021, showed more than half of consumers consider themselves clean eaters: Citing avoiding highly processed foods and consuming fresh and/or organic food. Consumers also said food ingredients have a moderate influence on purchases and that they prefer food labels without chemical sounding names. We want to make healthy, safe food choices for our families and ourselves. Instead of following “clean eating” which lacks a concise definition, select specific goals such as:

  • Choose Fresh Produce,
  • Eat Whole Grains, and
  • Follow Food Safety Guidelines
