For Food Safety in a Minute, this is Susie Craig.

With COVID-19, families are still spending time at home. For those celebrating Easter, it may include online searches for decorating Easter eggs this year. If your goal is to color eggs and eat them on Easter morning, here are three important (3) tips.

  • If you plan to eat your eggs, be cautious about online directions for coloring techniques. Always choose liquid dyes made for food coloring or paste dyes used in cake decorating.
  • Once eggs are cooked and dyed, place them in the refrigerator. Boiled eggs are perishable. They should never be eaten if they’ve been at room temperature for more than two hours.
  • Finally, store dyed eggs in an airtight container in your refrigerator. Use them within seven (7) days.
