COVID-19 has been a part of everyday life for almost a year. The International Food Information Council has been conducting on-going consumer surveys focused on COVID-19’s impact on food purchasing, eating behaviors and perceptions of food safety.

The latest results may surprise you. Shopping wearing a mask and hand washing after shopping were the most mentioned behaviors by consumers. Yet only half of them practiced those behaviors. At the beginning of the pandemic, consumers reported shopping less frequently. Now, survey takers report shopping more frequently at large supermarkets, local grocers, and corner stores. While many consumers were very concerned about shopping for food initially, they are less concerned now.
