Welcome to Food Safety in a Minute from Washington State University Extension.

Do you know what to expect when restaurants and taverns reopen in Washington State? According to guidelines from the governor, restaurants will be allowed to begin opening during Phase Two. Restaurants and taverns:

  • Will encourage customers to use face coverings.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available at the restaurant entrances.
  • Occupancy will be limited, at 50% or less capacity indoors and outdoors.
  • Guests will be limited to five or less per table.
  • Tables and chairs must allow six or more feet of separation unless there is a physical barrier between booths and tables.
  • Buffets, salad bars, and bar seating are not permitted during Phase Two.
  • Single use menus are required for in-person dining.
  • In waiting and payment areas, social distancing will occur.
