Are you concerned about COVID-19 and the safety of fresh produce in your grocery store? Growers follow guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and the Food and Drug Administration. The guidelines include practices such as pre-screening employees for symptoms before staring work. Commercial operations regularly disinfect high-touch surfaces including bins, baskets, and harvesting equipment. Employees practice good hand hygiene and wear face coverings while working. If a worker has COVID-19 symptoms or contact with an infected person, they are asked to leave and see a physician.

There have been no reports of COVID-19 illnesses transmitted from produce or produce packaging to people. As a result, if a farm employee is diagnosed with COVID-19, produce growers do not need to recall produce from the marketplace.
