COVID-19 has altered many aspects of our lives including how we shop at farmers markets. Now, many vendors offer opportunities to pre-order, pre-pay, and pick-up items on market day. This saves time and prevents the spread of COVID-19. From a public health and food safety perspective, pre-orders reduce the likelihood of cross contamination of disease-causing bacteria and viruses.
During drive-through market pick-up, customers may notice 6-foot pavement markers between your car and the farmer. Pre-placed orders will be put on a pick-up table for you maintaining social distancing. Or, with your permission, the vendor can place your order in your vehicle.
Check on-line listings for your local farmers market or look for opportunities to pre-order the next time you visit them.
