Have you ever wondered about the safety of adding food colorings to food? An often mentioned food safety concern is their possible association with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder in children. Scientific studies have been conducted on these relationships for more than fifty years. Most scientists agree there isn’t enough data to indicate food color consumption is linked with hyperactivity. However, there is agreement more research is needed. Currently, a study is being conducted in California.

In the United States, the safety of food coloring additives is evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. Globally, other countries including the European Union, United Kingdom and Japan assess safety and adopt their own standards for food colorings.
