Welcome to Food Safety in a Minute.
Have you considered how important your refrigerator is for food safety? The United States Department of Agriculture recommends a temperature inside your refrigerator of 40 degrees F. or below. Maintaining recommended temperature controls growth of disease-causing bacteria and bacteria leading to food spoilage. While digital thermometers are easily checked, it’s good to have a refrigerator shelf thermometer for
back-up.
Refrigerators are sophisticated. With specialized compartments and engineered, movable shelves, they make life easier and much safer than 100 years ago. Most have special, leak-proof compartments separating raw meat, poultry and fish from ready-to-eat food. And, special drawers with humidity control for produce. Familiarize yourself with the user guide to get the most from this important kitchen appliance.
