From Washington State University Extension, this is Food Safety in a Minute.

Do you enjoy sending special foods to friends and family members during the holidays? If you do, it’s important to consider food safety when you choose and ship your food items.

Choose foods not requiring refrigeration. Examples include homemade candy, bar cookies, nut breads, homemade granola, drink mixes, and spices.

If you plan to ship perishable items, it requires more planning. You’ll need a cold source such as dry ice or frozen gel packs. If you use dry ice, avoid direct contact with food and make sure you write “Contains Dry Ice” on the package. Bare hands and dry ice don’t mix.

Always let friends and family know food is on the way from you to them.
