For Food Safety in a Minute, I’m Susie Craig.

Have you ever opened your refrigerator, picked up a bottle of salad dressing and wondered, is it still safe to eat? There are research-based food safety guidelines for food storage from the United States Department of Agriculture.

The guidelines include everything from coffee, dairy products, eggs, deli foods, frozen foods, grains, salad dressings, cut fruit, and even leftover pizza.

It’s called the FoodKeeper App and it’s available for free for Android and Apple phones. Developed by the USDA, the Food Marketing Institute, and Cornell University, it includes storage times for more than 400 food items. Use a search engine to locate the FoodKeeper App. There’s also a searchable online document available from FoodSafety.gov.

For Food Safety in a Minute, this is Susie Craig from Washington State University Extension.
