Harvest Season: Time to Celebrate, Visit Our Local Farms

TACOMA, Wash. — Farms in three different areas of King and Pierce counties will open their gates to the public for the 2010 Harvest Celebration farm tours. The celebrations will occur on different days and each area will have several participating farms with a variety of family-friendly activities.

Farms in the Snoqualmie Valley will be offering tours on Saturday, Sept. 25, from 10 am until 4 pm.

Tours of Vashon Island farms will be available on Sunday, Sept. 26, from 10 am until 4 pm.

The Pierce County Harvest Fest will offer farm tours on Saturday, Oct. 2, from 10 am until 4 pm.

The tours are free, but a $10 donation is suggested to defray expenses.

A guide to the farm tours can be found in the Sept. 16 Seattle Weekly, and for Pierce County in the Sept. 22 News Tribune, Weekly Volcano and Puyallup Herald. The guides also are available at most libraries and farmers markets.
