30-day Trial of JMP and JMP Genomics
SAS Institute has developed powerful and relatively user-friendly software for statistics (JMP 10, JMP Pro) as well as for breeding and genetics (JMP Genomics). JMP has amazing graphical capabilities, and actually allows you to utilize or edit the underlying SAS code if you wish.

Policy Concerning Complimentary Copies of Textbooks
Provost Warwick M. Bayly wishes to remind faculty that the State Ethics Act prohibits the selling of books that faculty receive as a gift in their capacity as state employees. Violation of the State Ethics Act may subject a faculty member to a variety of penalties including substantial monetary fines. (See WAC 292-120.) The penalty provisions can be found at http://apps.leg.wa.gov/wac/default.aspx?cite=292-120. Such violation might also subject a faculty member to discipline under the Faculty Manual.

Research, Innovation and Commercialization – How to take the Idea to Translation
Join this brief presentation and discussion around university research, innovation and entrepreneurship on Sept. 6 from 2:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. in Butch’s Den, Room 60, in the Compton Union Building. The Corporate and Foundation Relations Team, along with the Office of Economic Development, the College of Business, the College of Engineering and Architecture, and the Office of Intellectual Property, are looking to streamline the commercialization process and entrepreneurship programs and refine the educational opportunities for students.

Homecoming Tailgate Reunion and Morrill Act Celebration
Join us Sept. 22 for an all-college tailgate reunion! Our CAHNRS & WSU Extension Homecoming Tailgate Reunion will bring together alumni, friends, faculty, staff and students for a day of music, Butch and the Spirit Squad, BBQ catering, and fun times.
That day, we also are celebrating the sesquicentennial of President Abraham Lincoln’s signing of the Morrill Act, which created the land-grant university system. There will be an interactive exhibit for all ages focused on how WSU benefits the state, nation and world with teaching, research and outreach.
Plan to attend our pre-game tailgate barbecue and watch the new-look Cougars take on the Colorado Buffalos. A block of 400 game tickets has been secured. Get tickets here »

John McNamara, professor in the Department of Animal Sciences, has been elected as a Fellow of the Society by the American Dairy Science Association. This honor is given to long-standing members in the American Dairy Science Association with excellent career records in research, teaching and service. Read More »
Erim Gomez, a Ph.D. student in the School of the Environment, will be featured in the fall edition of Revista Caminos, in a monthly column that features successful Latinos who can inspire the next generation.He was also recently awarded a travel scholarship to attend the conference of the Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science.
Michael Rowe has been awarded $252,389 from the National Science Foundation for his proposal “Collaborative Research: Using trace and ore elements to track volatile behavior and fluid migration within intermediate-silicic magma chambers.”
Students Allen Andersen and David Majewski, students in the School of the Environment, each received a $4000 award from the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies (AFMS) scholarship program.
