Washington State University Associate Professor Hang Liu in the Department of Apparel, Merchandising, Design and Textiles is the recipient of the 2024 Mid-Career Excellence Award from the International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA). Liu will be recognized during the annual ITAA conference in Long Beach, California, taking place November 20-23, 2024.
The award recognizes outstanding scholarly achievements. Her 44 peer-reviewed articles in popular journals propelled her to notable recognition in the eyes of the award selection committee.
To date, Liu has been awarded over $10 million via 36 funded grants, with funding coming from the National Science Foundation, the US Department of Agriculture, and the US Environmental Protection Agency, among other high-profile organizations.
Liu’s research focuses on functional textile fiber development and textile waste recycling for high-value-added products to follow the product functionalization and circular economy development trends in the textile and apparel industry.
No stranger to award recognition, Liu received the prestigious National Science Foundation Early Career Award in 2022 and was a recipient of the 2020 ITAA Rising Star Award.
She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Textile Engineering from Donghua University and her doctorate in Textile Sciences from the University of Georgia.
The ITAA is composed of scholars, educators, and students in the textile, apparel, and merchandising disciplines in higher education and promotes the discovery, dissemination, and application of knowledge. It is the primary resource for its members in strengthening leadership and service to society.
