New from Extension: Raising high-quality lambs through 4-H, FFA

Market lamb being shown by young personThe latest free guide from WSU Extension helps 4-H and FFA leaders and clubs assist youth in raising top-quality lambs for market.

Market lambs are popular projects for many youth, who learn to select, feed, manage, show and sell their market animals while developing many important life skills. While youth lamb projects make up a small percentage of lambs produced in the United States, they contribute a significant amount of product to consumers.

Written by Mark Heitstuman, director of WSU Asotin and Garfield County Extension and Regional Extension Specialist for Livestock and Community Development, the guide explains market grades and standards, and shares tips to successfully raise lambs.
