Wine center FloydCrop

In early 2013, planning for WSU’s Wine Science Center was well under way. The Wine Science Center Development Authority, a unique partnership with the City of Richland, the Port of Benton and many stakeholders, had brought the project near to ground breaking, but there were still significant resource needs.

President Floyd stepped in, committing WSU’s assistance in completing the project. Ultimately, WSU took over the project, and with Dr. Floyd’s leadership, continued to work closely with the Development Authority to ensure that this vital project was completed.

What was striking was his commitment to respecting and engaging all the stakeholders who had worked so hard and so long – especially the Washington Wine Commission and the Washington Association of Wine Grape Growers who had exercised great leadership to provide the seed funding for the center.
