Food Contamination: Part Three

Did you know you play an important role in protecting food security in the United States? The security of our food supply begins on the farm and ends at your table. The Food Safety Inspection Service, which is part of U.S.D.A, works with industry, producers, and government agencies to protect the safety of our food and responds to food security emergencies linked to meat, poultry, and eggs.

Consumers play an important role in protecting our food supply as well. If you notice any unusual characteristics of meat, poultry, or egg products, you should contact the appropriate authorities.

  • Start by calling your county health department- sharing the type of food and the store location where you found it.
  • Follow-up by calling the USDA at 1-888-674-6854.
  • If you’ve purchased the items in question, save the labels, cans, or cartons.
