Newswise, a news distribution web site, posted a story on Friday about research by Joe Pooviah and his team soon to be published in Nature that found that calcium signals plants to produce salicylic acid to protect against infection.

On both Monday and Tuesday the Northwest Ag Information Network aired stories with Jonathan Yoder on his report that biomass from farm and forestry waste is a more viable source for biofuels than food crops in Washington state.

Wednesday’s Bellevue Reporter included a story on Bellevue businessman Steve Burnstead co-chairing the CEO Collection effort for “A Celebration of Washington Wines” benefit auction.

A story in Tuesday’s Kitsap Sun about unusual “snow worms” emerging through the local snow pack reported that the newspaper turned to Peg Tillery at Kitsap County Extension for assistance in identifying the worms.

Friday’s Whidbey News Times reported that the Island County Extension WasteWise program is one of the participants in the county’s program for collection and recycling of electronic waste with comments from Janet Hall.

Sunday’s Anacortes American reported on an upcoming seminar series being presented by the Skagit County Beach Watchers.

Saturday’s Tri-City Herald included a story on the Master Gardener program with information on upcoming Master Gardener training in the Tri-Cities, Yakima and Walla Walla.

Last Monday’s Walla Walla Union Bulletin also included a story on the Master Gardener program and upcoming Master Gardener classes in Walla Walla.
