Award winners at WAWGG Convention

WSU had many students and faculty honored at the annual Washington Association of Wine Grape Growers Meeting, Convention and Trade Show, held Feb. 9-11. WSU students and scientists submitted 40 posters at the convention. Here are the winners from WSU.

Undergraduate students:

1st: Daniel Hottell (WSU VE undergraduate student) – Gambling with Grafting:  Do’s and Don’ts During Top-Grafting

2nd: Nathaniel Roberge (WSU VE Undergraduate student) – The Ecology of Red Wine Fermentation

3rd: Corydon Funk (WSU VE Undergraduate student) – Climate and relation to quality

Graduate students:

1st: Eric Gale (Hort MS student) – Defining Grapevine Root Cold Hardiness

2nd: Katherine East (Hort MS student)– Root-Know Nematode:  Developing Integrated Management Tools for Washington State Grape Growers

3rd: Zachary Cartwright (Food Sci Ph.D. student) – Analysis of Brettanomyces bruxellensis in Different Types of Oak Staves

Professional:

1st: Michelle Moyer (WSU Faculty, IAREC) – Evaluation of Rootstocks for Nematode Management in Washington Vineyards

2nd: Naidu Rayapati (WSU Faculty, IAREC) – Tackling emerging soil-borne virus diseases in Washington vineyards

3rd: Lynn Mills (WSU Scientific Asst, IAREC) – Pruning approaches to revive cold-injured Merlot grapevines
