WSU to Auction 21 Horses

PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University will auction 21 horses at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 26, at Hilltop Stables.

Betsy Greene, sales manager and a member of the WSU faculty, urges buyers to be present, but said absentee bids will be accepted.

Eleven geldings and ten mares are being sold. All but one were donated as green horses last year for the WSU equine program. The other is a hold-over from 1995.

Horses are suitable for a variety of levels of rider experience. Several are hunter/jumper prospects. Several would make competitive western mounts. Horses have also had trailer loading experience.

Krista Moreshead, equine instructor, said that the class was restructured this year to provide more hands-on handling and riding experience.

Greene expects special interest in three horses.

  • VP Decree is a registered Arabian who has a very flashy look and is very curious and eager to learn.
  • Skip A Saint, a registered American Paint Horse who loves to work and needs to be challenged.

Last year’s sale attracted about 90 registered bidders. Seventeen horses sold for an average $1,220.

Revenue helps pay for the maintenance of the horses that will be sold April 26th.

To obtain a catalog or additional information, contact Moreshead, (509) 335-4283 or (509) 335-3718.

Absentee bids must reach the WSU Animal Sciences Department by 5 p.m., Friday, April 25. Call Cindy McGuire (509) 335-2817 for an absentee bid form.

Horses may be previewed at Hilltop Stables, noon to 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, through Friday, April 25.
