WSU Joins National ‘Food Day’ with Full Slate of Events

PULLMAN, Wash. — On Oct. 24, Washington State University students, staff and faculty are joining hundreds of farmers, co-ops and community organizations across the country in the first national Food Day. Food Day organizers at WSU have scheduled a number of activities on campus as part of the national effort to raise food consciousness. Food Day seeks to bring together Americans from all walks of life to advocate for healthy, affordable food produced in a sustainable, humane way.

Food Day activities at WSU include:

  • Debate Under the Big Tent: How do we feed 6,965,236,343? – Numerous challenges pose threats to the world’s ability to feed itself. Faculty, students and community leaders will debate and discuss their solutions to these global challenges. Oct. 24, noon in the CUB, first floor.
  • Food Day Service Projects – Join fellow WSU students and volunteer at the WSU Organic Farm or the Pullman Community Garden, help cook a “real food” dinner at Sojourners’ Alliance, a local transition house. Oct. 24, students meet in CUB L45 and must register in SLPro.
  • Film Series – Watch three documentaries and munch snacks provided by the WSU Organic Farm. All films are shown in CUB L46 on Oct. 24. “Future of Food” shows at 1:30 p.m. “Food, Inc.” shows at 3:30 p.m. and “The Garden” shows at 7 p.m.
  • Reflection: “Hunger at Home: Feeding the Palouse” – Join students and members of the Palouse-area community in discussing how to end hunger in the Palouse. Students get two hours of reflection credit. Refreshments will be provided by the WSU Organic Farm. 5-7pm in CUB L45.
