WSU Bear Research Center Open House Offers Chance to Meet Bear Cubs

PULLMAN, Wash. – Visitors to the Washington State University Bear Research Center will have a rare opportunity for a close look at two young bear cubs at the center’s Open House from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., Saturday, April 14.

Staff-guided tours of the Bear Center will be available. “It’s a chance for the general public to get within inches of the bears,” said center director Charlie Robbins. The three-month-old bear cubs were born at the center in February. The center also houses several adults.

Bear Center faculty and staff also will be on hand to talk about bear biology, conservation and research. T-shirts will be available for purchase. Proceeds from the sale of T-shirts go toward the support of the WSU Bear Center’s research, education and conservation programs.

The event is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted. The event is offered in conjunction with WSU’s annual Mom’s Weekend, held this year April 13 – 15.

The WSU Bear Center is located at the junction of Grimes Way and Airport Road in Pullman, Wash. More information about the center is available on the Bear Center web site: http://www.natural-resources.wsu.edu/research/bear-center/index.html.
