Winthrop Farm Walk to Focus on Organic Grain Production

PUYALLUP, Wash. – Farmers Brooke and Sam Lucy will discuss the growing, processing and direct marketing of certified organic grains during a farm walk at their Bluebird Grain Farms near Winthrop.

The farm walk, the last for this season, will be held on Monday, Oct. 22, from noon to 3:30 pm at the farm located northwest of Winthrop (driving directions below). The cost is $10 for members of Tilth Producers of Washington and $15 for nonmembers.

The Lucy’s organically raise rye, red wheat, flax and the heirloom grain emmer (farro) that they sell as whole grain and process into a variety of products that they market directly to consumers. They will discuss how they create and market their fresh custom-milled flour and dry grain products. More information is available by visiting www.bluebirdgrainfarms.com or by calling 509/996-3526.

Farm walks provide a forum for farmers to share their knowledge with one another. The farm walks are sponsored by the Washington State University Small Farms Team and Tilth Producers of Washington.
