Using Woody Biomass Focus of August Webinar

PULLMAN, Wash.— Efficient utilization of timber and biomass residues for alternative fuels and other products will be the focus of the free webinar “Adding Value to Woody Biomass” at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 4, at http://breeze.wsu.edu/research_that_works_for_you/. The presentation is part of Washington State University Extension’s webinar series, “Research that Works for You.”

Researcher and WSU Extension specialist Vikram Yadama and assistant research professor Karl Englund, both from the WSU Composite Materials and Engineering Center, will present the Webinar. “As the nation and the world are looking to biomass as an alternative source of fuel and power the role of our forests has taken on a new perspective,” Yadama and Englund said. “Efficient utilization of our timber and biomass residues is critical to creating sustainable forests for  the future.

Since 1949, the Composite Materials and Engineering Center, formerly the Wood Materials and Engineering Laboratory, has focused its research, teaching and outreach efforts on the use of woody biomass for a variety of applications and products. Recent efforts have targeted a wide spectrum of research areas ranging from biofuel co-products and nan-crystalline cellulose to wood plastic composites and building science.
