PULLMAN, Wash. — Andrew M. Cockle, a senior at Nooksack Valley High in Everson, was elected 1997-98 state president of the Washington FFA at the conclusion of the organization’s 67th convention here Sunday.
Cockle, son of Fred and Karen Cockle, 522 Chatham Place, Everson, also placed first in citizenship, took top honors in the state senior record book competition and earned several scholarships.
The youth was a Masonic Junior Scholar and is an honorable mention National Merit Scholar. Cockle is originally from Colfax.
LeAnne F. Crossland, a Yelm High senior, was elected state vice president. She is the daughter of Bob Crossland, 10525 Old McKenna Rd, Yelm.
Nathaniel Wood, a senior at Ritzville High, was elected state secretary. He is the son of Barry and Cathy Wood, 505 E. Fourth St., Ritzville. He served as assistant reporter of the Ritzville chapter in 1995- 1996 and chapter vice president this past year.
James Nadig, an Enumclaw High senior, was elected state reporter. He also finished third in the State Knowledge Contest. He is vice president of his hometown chapter and District II sentinel.
The youth is the son of Helen Nadig, 1964 Loraine St., Enumclaw.
Danika Gwinn, a senior at Pomeroy High, was named state sentinel. She is the daughter of Mike and Alice Gwinn, 356 E. Lynn Gulch Rd., Pomeroy.
Gwinn’s FFA honors include the State FFA Degree and Star Green Hand. She also has served as president of District VI.
Jaime Hinton, a Sedro-Woolley High senior, was voted state treasurer. Hinton is president of the Sedro-Woolley FFA chapter and District I treasurer. She also is 1997 Northwest Junior Rodeo Queen.
Hinton is the daughter of Jim and Sharon Hinton 1553 Gunderson Rd., Mount Vernon.
More than 2,500 members, chapter advisors and guests attended the convention at Washington State University.
