PULLMAN, Wash. – About 75 Washington teenagers and 25 adults are expected to attend the 2007 4-H Summer Teen Conference on the Washington State University campus, June 24-26.
“The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Fast Track to the Future,’” said Jan Klein, state 4-H teen leadership coordinator for WSU Extension. “Our workshops will help teens build skills and plan for their futures while having some fun.”
A recent WSU graduate will answers questions about what college is really like while another will talk about getting into college, paying for it and getting involved in campus organizations.
Workshops will help teens improve skills in listening, interviewing, managing a budget, interpersonal communications and taking better photos.
Other workshops will focus on service learning. “During these two-hour workshops, youth will learn how to plan a service learning project or service learning opportunity when they go back home,” Klein said. “They will choose a workshop in an area of interest: environment, healthy choices or leadership.”
Featured speakers include Lisa Criddle, senior product manager for child safety in Microsoft’s MSN Safety and Security Group. Criddle will deliver a presentation on Internet safety at 11:15 a.m. Monday, in Johnson Hall C107.
Kim Kidwell, professor of crop and soil sciences, will speak on “Making Our Mark on the World” at the conference banquet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, at the Paradise Creek Quality Inn.
