Free Web Series to Address Issues of “Ag in Uncertain Times”

The Western Extension Committee is presenting an interactive online webinar series on a variety of issues to help agricultural producers and other professionals better understand and deal with today’s changing economy. Titled “Ag in Uncertain Times,” the series will present multiple online sessions in the months of June, September, October, November, and December.

The series kicks off with a set of four live interactive web sessions in June on the topic of “Operating in the Face of Uncertain Credit.” The first webinar will be on Tuesday, June 9, with leading national economist David Kohl identifying the mega trends for agriculture that are emerging from the new economic reality.

A webinar on June 10 will focus on how the larger credit environment is impacting agricultural credit. It will feature a panel comprised of Jay Penick, CEO of the Northwest Farm Credit Association, Curt Covington, Senior Vice President for Agribusiness Banking with Bank of the West, and Chris Beyerhelm, Assistant Deputy Administrator for Farm Loans with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency.

Additional sessions will be held June 17 and 24 focusing how producers can manage their businesses in the evolving credit situation, and introducing several financial analysis tools available for ag enterprise managers.

Participants need to have a computer with speakers and a high speed Internet connection. All webinar sessions will begin at 9 am Pacific Time. Each session is scheduled for from 60 to 90 minutes with plenty of time for participants to interact with the presenters. Future sessions will be adjusted to reflect feedback from the participant interaction.

Montana State University is hosting the sessions and all of the webinars can be accessed by going to:

No pre-reservation is required, but each session is limited to 500 participants on a first-come basis. It is recommended that participants log on a few minutes early to assure connection, see information on how to ask questions, and to make sure the audio is functioning.

The dates and topics for the webinars for the remainder of the year are:

  • Families Facing Uncertainty in Agriculture: Oct. 7, 14, and 21
