Colorado State Prof Honored at WSU

PULLMAN, Wash. — Gary C. Smith, distinguished professor and Monfort Endowed Chair in Meat Sciences at Colorado State University, was honored Thursday (April 15) at Washington State University.

Smith received the Distinguished Graduate Award in Science and Technology from the animal sciences department. Smith earned a master’s degree in animal sciences at WSU in 1962.

He was presented a plaque. In addition, his photo will be put on permanent display in the department.

Smith, a member of the Colorado State University faculty since 1990, has served as president of the American Meat Science Association and served on advisory boards for such industry organizations as the National Lamb Feeders, National Meat Association, the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, the American Meat Institute and the Colorado Cattle Feeders Association.

His honors include the Distinguished Research and Distinguished Teaching Award from both the American Society of Animal Science and The American Meat Science Association.

While in Pullman he spoke at WSU’s Beef Information Days.
