PULLMAN, Wash. — A series of three Washington State University workshops for cow-calf operators aim to increase profits by helping managers change their focus from maximizing production to maximizing profits.
Donald Nelson, WSU Cooperative Extension beef specialist, says the workshops will be most effective for producers who attend all three. Operators who sign up for all three will be registered first.
Low Cost Cow-Calf Production will be held June 6-9 in Spokane. It will be taught by Dick Diven, Agri-Concepts, Tucson, Ariz. Enrollment is limited to 30 people. Cost is $495.
Land EKG will be taught in two sessions, June 19-20 and June 22-23. Each session is limited to 15 people. Charley Orchard, of Land EKG Inc., Bozeman, Mont., will teach this workshop. The June 19-21 session will be held on a ranch in northeastern Washington. The June 22-24 workshop will be held on a southeastern Washington ranch. Participants will select one of these sessions. Registration is $300.
The third workshop, Body Condition Scoring of Beef Cows, will be taught by WSU faculty in Pullman. Enrollment is limited to 30 people. Registration costs $50.
Nelson said Northwest Farm Credit Services will pay the workshop registration fees for any of their cow-calf customers in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana who receive prior approval. Call KayDee Catlin at 1 (800) 827-6505, extension 303, or (509) 838-9303 for FCS approval.
