Extension educator offers Healthy Eating, Active Living classes through Spokane Libraries

Family with fun healthy foodsOffered through WSU Extension, the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) helps families eat healthy, stay physically active, and stretch their food budget.

In August and September, Spokane County Extension EFNEP Educator Brenda McGuire is partnering with Spokane County Library District in seven interactive lessons aimed at helping Spokane families learn about healthy foods, fun recipes, and new ways to be active together.

Participants receive a water bottle, measuring cups and spoons, a cookbook, and a graduation certificate. These supplies will be available for pickup at libraries for registered participants.

Families qualify for EFNEP if they are pregnant or have children at home and are eligible for programs such as School Lunch, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Basic Food), WIC, or Head Start/ECEAP.

Classes are held at 2 p.m. on Thursdays, Aug. 5 to Sept. 16.
