Each week, we showcase one of our CAHNRS Ambassadors, a student leadership organization that encourages students to pursue higher education and serves as a liaison between the college and the greater community. This week, we’re featuring Jacob Gilbreath, a sophomore from Tenino, Wash.
What are you studying?
I’m majoring in Animal Science on the pre-veterinary track.
Favorite Show/Movie:
Brooklyn 9-9
Favorite Cougar Tradition:
My favorite Cougar tradition is Mom and Dad’s weekend. By the time these two weekends roll around, school is busy and stressful. Having my parents come provides a nice break from the normal school chaos and gives me an opportunity to spend time with some of the people I love most. It’s always great to see my parents, both on these weekends or not, because without them, I wouldn’t be here.
Favorite CAHNRS Commodity:
Ferdinand’s Ice Cream! There is nothing that beats this treat, even in the dead of winter Huckleberry is still the best. I worked at the Dairy Center where our milk was used for the various dairy products, including multiple flavors of cheese and ice cream.
Why be a CAHNRS Coug?
I chose to be a CAHNRS Coug because of my background in agriculture. My love of animals was inspired and developed by the many years I spent in 4-H and FFA. This love of animals is the reason I came to WSU and chose to pursue the pre-veterinary track. Through these last few years within CAHNRS, I have met a variety of students that are all pursuing incredibly diverse degrees with very different interests. Being a CAHNRS Coug means being diverse and being proud of it, but also allowing others to be proud of their diversity.
Best Student Experience:
The best experiences I have had as a student at WSU is by far being a TA. Working as a TA has provided me with incredible opportunities to not only develop my own abilities, but to also help others develop themselves as students and individuals as well. I have had very impactful TA’s in the past and having the chance to be that person to someone else is something I wouldn’t give up.
CAHNRS Taught Me:
CAHNRS has offered me endless opportunities that have all helped me grow as a student, as a professional and as an individual. Through different activities such as working as a TA, holding a variety of leadership position within campus organizations, and improving my social skills with these clubs, I have been constantly growing and developing since coming to WSU. I am now confident enough that I can be relatable, friendly, funny, and professional all at the same time.
