Family forest-owners field day for Eastern Washington slated for June 16 near Newport
NEWPORT, Wash. – A Family Forest Owners Field Day is scheduled for 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday, June 16, near Newport, Wash. The event is sponsored by WSU Extension, the DNR Forest Stewardship Program, and the Family Forest Foundation. The location is approximately 10 miles southwest of Newport off Scotia Road, within driving distance from Ferry, Spokane, Stevens, Lincoln and Pend Oreille counties.
Classes will be led by recognized experts in forest management, wildlife habitat and other forest stewardship disciplines. This “out-in-the-woods” educational event is designed for landowners with five to 500 acres.
Participants will learn how to plan and execute management activities that meet their personal objectives, reduce risks and protect their financial investment.
Participants can choose from a variety of classes and activities regarding:
- forest health
- wildlife habitat
- weed control
- wildfire protection
- timber and non-timber forest products
- using global positioning systems
- chainsaw safety and maintenance
- forestland security and safety
Presenters will be available to answer specific property questions. Youth activities will be available all day.
Registration is $20 per person for those who register by June 8, or $30 for a family of two or more. After that date the fee is $30 per person, or $40 per family. An optional BBQ lunch, with proceeds to benefit the Riverside High School wrestling program, will be available for $10 per person. Lunch reservations must be received by June 8.
