Ning Crunch?

Sounds like Ning, the custom social network service, is going to move soon to a pay-for model. So far, it’s basic service has been free. Here’s what Techcrunch has to say:

[Ning] has just announced that it is killing off its free product, forcing existing free networks to either make the change to premium accounts or migrate their networks elsewhere. [Recently appointed CEO and former long-time COO of Ning] Rosenthal has also just announced that the company has cut nearly 70 people — over 40% of its staff.

Bummer for Ning users. But be not sad, say the folks over at the Buddypress blog, who see this has a moment for BuddyPress to shine.
